Growing Old Disgracefully
The Sri Lanka Series

The bags are half‑packed, the sunscreen is ready, and the turtles are expecting us.

Sri Lanka stories begin early October — see you then.

About Us

We’re Jackie and Billy, two people who decided that life was far too short to sit still, behave sensibly, or wait for “one day”. So instead, we packed up our curiosity, our slightly questionable decision‑making, and our love for wildlife and wandered off toward something new.

We’ve always loved wildlife, the ocean, travelling, and the feeling of being somewhere new. So when the chance came to spend nine weeks in Sri Lanka helping with turtle conservation, we didn’t overthink it. We just said yes — the way we tend to do with things that feel a bit bold, scary and a bit brilliant.

We’re not influencers, experts, or professional travellers. We’re ordinary people with a shared habit of saying yes to things that make life feel better, are easily swayed into dubious decisions and happiest when we’re learning something new.

This space is simply us: learning, laughing, volunteering, exploring Sri Lanka, and trying (with varying degrees of success) to grow old disgracefully. If you fancy coming along for the ride, you’re very welcome.

What is the Sri Lanka Series?

A warm, sunlit welcome to our little corner of the internet — a place for stories, sandy footprints, mild chaos, and the adventure we’ve decided to have instead of the sensible retirement we were probably meant to choose.

Our nine‑week journey to Sri Lanka begins soon: beaches, people, food, turtles, volunteering, learning, and almost certainly a few moments where one of us says, “This wasn’t in the brochure.”
